Hello
My name is Jennie, the owner of Mango Street.
We are a small business who strongly believe it's important to champion small, minority and family owned businesses and of course our local artisans, and we have acheived that. Most of our inventory falls under one or more of our core values such as handmade, upcycled, eco-friendly, Fair Trade, fun, unique, fab...
Here is how I got here. I realized my dream of owning a gift store many years ago, 1980's! That dream helped me keep going when times got really tough. 1990's is when I started saving for my dream. I knew I wanted to offer unique items which are perfect for gifting, decor or just tickles your fancy, bring smiles to faces or chuckle as they strolled through my store. Acheived that too and that makes my heart smile!
I had quite a few 'almost got my store's, but it just wasn't meant to be. Finally in January 2024 I had saved enough....but I was too chicken to do it! Then suddenly, my sister just one year older than me, passed away. My husband said, "What are you waiting for? Now or never, don't regret not doing it". So I opened my store on December 22nd 2024!
Like many, I have had my share of ups and downs through life and I know I am at a fortunate time in my life and this is my time to give back and try to do some good. By supporting us, together we are doing good.
Our goal is to be able to help our community and anyone really; to offer paid internships to gain retail experience. I was given an opportunity at the start of my career with no experience, so it's my way of paying it forward; events to bring our community together and meet new people.
We plan to offer some of our store space (small space because our store is small!) for anyone who would like to hold a class, showcase their product, gifting party etc..
I thank you for taking the time to read this and browsing our website.
Wishing health and happiness
Jennie
